This week has been the longest week...since last week :) We began testing on Monday and had a 46 question multiple choice test for four days, a half day, a bunch of wiggly kids and some super hot days and I was asking how I would focus on creative thinking this week! I kind of forgot about being creative, I kind of forgot about my kids and my teaching. I was so focused on the tests, bubbling correctly, having them sit quietly that, for goodness sake, I forgot the reason we were all there: TO LEARN!
These types of weeks are the hardest, but with a little help from my team I put together some awesome group work creative thinking time that my kids and I both thoroughly enjoyed!
Most of it can be seen on my classroom blog but today I added a bit more to that creative thinking. Last year was my first big thrust into 21st century classrooms and global connections. I was so apprehensive at first but then I saw the advancements and the excitement from my kids and knew that I had to jump in feet first if I was going to make this work. Fast forward to this year, I am jumping in at the beginning of the year to making my classroom global! I have my kids pumped up and they, yes they, even made a goal that they would connect with all 50 states and 1 country from every continent! I was a tad blown away, and a little overwhelmed when they came up with it but, hey if it is what they want...why not!
So I decided to have them come up with a display board to show off our class goal and to show people how we are doing towards our goal! They got into groups of 4 and had 20 minutes to design a display. Then as a class we picked pieces of all the presentations to make the coolest display ever (or we think so anyway). It's not done yet, and it probably won't be up for a week but when it does I'll share it out and keep you updated on our progress! And, if you happen to be reading this from out of the state of Arizona and would like to connect...let me know, I could use all the help in the world!
