Key details

We have been working on plants, which is a 3rd grade science standard, for the past two weeks. We've read this book called, The Wonderful World of Plants. Great little book, tons of information. I planned a webquest for my students to review the parts of the plant. Well, after 3 days in the text they could name all the parts of the plant like the back of their hands so why was I going to go through a project on something that they already knew!

Then it came to me, in the middle of my lesson. They were having problems with pollination and germination so I thought they could watch videos and read text, take out the key points and put those into presentations to send to 2nd grade for when they teach it. Perfect! So we watched a Brain Pop Jr. video in which they had to take notes based on what group they were in. Then they had to write the steps down as a class and then as a group figure out how to show it in a way that someone that's never read anything before will understand it. We're still working on our creativeness when it comes to these types of projects, have to get them out of the "making poster" modes.
