End of 2013 Already!

I'm not really sure how or where 2013 went, but it's gone! Another year of laughing, accomplishments and lessons. I'm excited for what 2014 has to bring but I want to reflect on what the 1st semester of the 2013-2014 school year has brought me.

In math, I feel like more of my students are trying to work out the problem before they say that they give up and need help or say that they found the answer. It's amazing hearing them talk to each other about the problems, giving each other advice and explaining concepts to a friend who has questions. I still think we have a ton of work to get done yet, but the signs that problem solvers are sitting in my classroom get me excited to keep working!

In ELA...well there is just so many accomplishments! I've had students start reading chapter books! The writing that has happened in this room is just amazing! We did a writing where the prompt was, if you lived in a snow globe. Again, we still have work to do but I was amazed at the ideas and organization of some of my students! I don't think I give them nearly enough credit, because for 3rd graders they are doing some amazing work!

I was also impressed by their love of projects and connecting with other schools. They would write for days about it and talk about it with other students in the classroom (and hopefully their parents).
